Heather Hawthorn Doyle

Heather ​Hawthorn Doyle’s experience is vast and varied in single and multi cam formats as both a director and a producer.  In the past seven years HHD has developed and successfully pitched six new series and been the showrunner for more than 300 episodes of internationally distributed, award winning series and specials spanning the factual, documentary and kids programming genres for major broadcasters in Canada and the US including HGTV, Animal Planet, OWN, W Network, OLN, BIO channel, Comedy, CITY and CBC. 


Heather got her start as an assistant director working on game shows “Lingo”, “Second Honeymoon” and the kids show “5-4-3-2-RUN”.  She also AD’d over 200 episodes of the US/Canadian soap/reality series “The Secret Lives of Dr. Don Dutton” and 10 years of “The Canadian Country Music Awards” first for CTV and then for CBC.  As a live sports AD she worked on 10 seasons of “The BC Summer Games”, and on the “1988 Winter Olympic Games” in Calgary. 


As a director she started in news eventually working for every major television broadcaster and was part of the startup team for Vancouver Television (CTV) which won the RTNDA award for best large market local newscast in the country their first year on the air. 


Heather directed the first season of the late night comedy/music series “Terminal City” for CBC and 5 seasons of the daily national talk/variety series “The Vicki Gabereau Show” for CTV. 


Some of the specials Heather directed are “Garth Brooks: Sevens” for CMT and “Anna and Kristina’s COOKED” for Corus Network and the live events “The Worlds AIDS Conference” and “APEC”.  HHD also produced “Irwin Barker: Can’t Stop Laughing” for the Comedy Network and two seasons of “The Children’s Miracle Network Telethon” co-winning an international award as director and producer for “Moms and Sons” voted most inspirational music video amongst telethons in North American that year.


Heather also has been the show runner for many series including “Make Some Noise ”CBC’s award winning youth documentary series (NHK Japan Prize, $50,000 Shaw Rocket Prize, Gemini Award), W Network’s Gemini nominated food show with a twist “Anna and Kristina’s Grocery Bags” seen in over 65 countries, and she’s just finished producing and directing the pilot episodes of “Surprise, It’s a Puppy” for Animal Planet US. 


HHD has successfully developed and Executive Produced multiple series including the Gemini nominated “Word Travels” (40x30 CITY) which follows two of Canada’s top travel writers through 35 countries, the eco-friendly home makeover series “Pure Design” (26x30 HGTV) and the Leo Award winning competition series “Get Stuffed” (13x30 OLN).


Through Mom and Dad Productions, Hawthorn-Doyle Executive Produced 30 episodes of the IMG format “Beer Money” for CITY and with Worldwide Bag Media is currently piloting two digital shorts for CBC Kids “Animal News Now” a kids newscast with ‘talking’ animals which she directed and which is based on her original idea.


HHD is one of the few who can ‘go both ways’ equally skilled in the creative side of TV as a show runner, director and creator and on the business side hiring great teams and bringing shows in on time and on budget.
